About TCCSP

The Tri-Counties Cancer Surveillance Program (TCCSP) is one of the ten Regions of the California Cancer Surveillance System that contributes to the statewide population-based California Cancer Registry (CCR). Since 1988, pursuant to a legislative mandate designating cancer as a reportable disease, TCCSP has collected information on cancer incidence and mortality for San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties covering a population of slightly over a million and a quarter people. The data collected at TCCSP, when combined with data from the other nine Regional Registries, provides a wealth of valuable information that is used by researchers and public health officials. The data is used to:

•Study cancer causes and risk factors
    •Conduct epidemiological studies
•Disseminate information for planning and early detection programs
•Respond to state and local questions and concerns about cancer
•Provide information to citizens, legislators and health professionals

The ultimate goal of the California Cancer Registry and the TCCSP is to advance the health of Californians through contributing accurate population-based cancer incidence and mortality data. This data is used extensively to develop strategies and policies for the prevention, treatment and control of cancer in California and the Tri-Counties Region.
